With this collection, you can expect a dazzling array of whimsically spherical blossoms in shades ranging from purple to pink to white.  While bees, butterflies, and pollinators adore the globular blooms, they’re entirely unbothered by deer. They are fantastic for cutting and containers. These Allium ‘Summer Sparkler’ Mix bulbs are ready to light up your garden like flowering fireworks. Enjoy!

Noteworthy Characteristics

The genus Allium contains over 700 species of bulbous or rhizomatous plants. All possess oniony smelling flowers and foliage. Some species are grown for culinary purposes and others for ornamental purposes. Plants typically produce showy flower umbels on naked scapes rising above a clump of linear grass-like leaves. Ornamental alliums generally range in height from 3” to 4-6’ tall.

If you don’t already consider onions to be gorgeous garden additions, you about to change your mind with these ornamental balls of joy! As with garlic and onions, Alliums display round flower heads, and while they may not spice up your cooking, they do exhibit a subtle onion-like aroma when crushed. Each spherical cluster comprises dozens of striking, star-shaped florets that are sure to brighten your garden. They are remarkably tough plants.   Some blossoms are as large as soccer balls. Take your garden to the next level of dramatic design with gorgeous Alliums!

Problems

Bulb rot may occur in overly moist soils. Watch for mildew, rust and leaf spots. Thrips are an occasional problem. Deer and rabbits tend to avoid this plant.

Garden Uses

A striking accent for mixed borders and cottage gardens.  Container Garden, Cut Flower Garden, Dried Flowers.
