As part of our mission to educate and share effective and sustainable horticultural practices, the Grimes County Master Gardener Association provides educational seminars and programs in the county.
2019 Fall Seminar: “Keys to a Successful Landscape” and “Fall Vegetable Gardening“. GCMG provided an educational seminar to King Oaks residents on the key elements of a successful landscape along with fall vegetable gardening in Grimes County.
2019 Spring Seminar: Container Gardening and the Monarch Butterfly Migration. GCMG provided information to the residents of 42 Place on how to do container gardening along with a talk about the migratory path of the Monarch Butterfly. Residents were provided large containers and tomatoes from the master gardeners to plant on their own property.
2018 Project: Buckingham Gardens Project. An ongoing project at the Buckingham Gardens in Navasota, Texas, where residents are senior citizens or residents with disabilities. The program centered on building container gardens for ease of gardening for those residents with physical limitations.
2018 Seminar: “Homeowner’s Landscape Design and Plant Selection” Workshop. The audience were homeowners in the Grimes County and adjacent counties wanting to understand how to develop a basic landscaping design plan using Texas Natives and adapted plants to create a design for their own property.
