Don’t put away your gardening tools when summer ends—some of the best harvests of the year are just beginning! Join Galveston County Master Gardeners John Mitchiner and Wendy Oalmann for Path to the Plate – Cool Season Veggies, an informative workshop designed to help gardeners take advantage of the Gulf Coast’s productive fall growing season. Discover why fall is often considered the ideal time for growing vegetables and learn how to set the stage for a successful harvest.

Participants will learn when and how to plant, proper care and maintenance practices, harvest timing, nutritional benefits, and integrated pest management techniques to help keep their fall gardens healthy, productive, and full of fresh flavors.

Summer Sundown Online Plant Sale

Galveston County Master Gardeners Summer Sundown Online Plant Sale is Monday, August 25th from noon to Tuesday, August 26th at noon.

A preview of items for this sale will be available Monday, August 18th to Monday, August 25th.

We will have fruit and citrus trees, fall tomatoes, fall vegetables, perennials, hibiscus and plumerias.

Vegetable Garden Series: Fall Vegetables

Galveston County Master Gardener Gene Speller will present a program on growing Cruciferous and other leafy vegetables normally grown during fall and winter months. The list includes popular varieties of broccoli, Brussels sprouts, cabbage, cauliflower, collards, kale, mustard and turnip greens.  Other leafy vegetables include several varieties of lettuce, spinach and Swiss chard.  A discussion of applicable pest management practices is also included.  Many of the vegetables discussed in this program will be offered for sale as transplants at the Galveston County Master Gardener Annual Fall Festival & Plant Sale in October.
