Advanced Training in Turfgrass for Master Gardeners is specialized education designed to deepen their knowledge and skills related to lawn and turf management.
Two volunteers per county.
Must have agent approval to attend.
Key components typically include:

Turfgrass species identification and their suitability for various climates and uses

Soil preparation and best practices for establishing and maintaining healthy turf

Mowing, irrigation, and fertilization techniques

Integrated Pest Management (IPM) for turf pests, weeds, and diseases

Sustainable lawn care practices and environmental stewardship

Diagnostics for common turf issues (e.g., brown patches, thinning, discoloration)

Local or regional turf management considerations, including drought-tolerant species
Purpose:

Equip certified Master Gardeners to better assist the public with lawn care questions

Enable volunteers to present accurate, research-based information at events, classes, or through help desks

Support Extension outreach by developing specialized turfgrass resource people in each county
Successful completion involves attending 16 hours of continuing education and an additional 20 hours of service participating in continuing education or outreach using the knowledge gained.
