Winterizing Your Garden–What to Know and When to Sow

Join us for our last GROWS event of the year where you will learn about two topics of interest in the autumn season: how to prepare your vegetable garden for the upcoming cold months, and some helpful seasonal irrigation system tips.
Winterizing Your Garden
Harvesting the remains of your spring gardens? Wondering what might grow in the coming months? Learn how to prepare a garden for the cold months ahead–keeping in mind the latest water conservation techniques. Let’s review what varieties of fruits and vegetables grow well in El Paso and discuss the planting calendar for El Paso County. Robin Scofield, El Paso County Master Gardeners Advanced Specialist for Vegetable Gardening, will provide us with a bounty of ideas for successful crops.
Seasonal Irrigation Tips
Fall is a great time to update your irrigation system. In this talk, Jennifer Barr, Water Conservation Manager at El Paso Water, will walk you through your irrigation system–from timer to emitter–highlighting items that should be wrapped, capped, mapped, changed, replaced, or simply reviewed before winter’s arrival.
El Paso Water and El Paso Master Gardeners have created a series of Water Conservation workshops we’ve nicknamed our GROWS talks. GROWS is an acronym for Gardening Resources Outreach Workshops and Seminars. We provide a variety of research-based talks and resources for creating healthy, water-conserving gardens.
