Train-the-Trainer Workshop: Build Your Own Rain Barrel

Interested in rainwater harvesting? The City is holding a special Train-the-Trainer workshop on July 18th from 2:00 – 6:00 p.m. where you will learn how to build a rain barrel. Some of you will want to share this skill with others so you can volunteer to become a future Build-a-Rain-Barrel-Trainer.

This is a combination “learn and volunteer” workshop. In addition to learning about active and passive rainwater harvesting, you will help plant garden beds or help with other gardening tasks at the recreation center.

How do you earn a chance to win a free rain barrel? Volunteer to become a future Build-a-Rain-Barrel-Trainer and you will earn a raffle ticket for one of eight 32-gallon rain barrels to be given away on the 18th.

El Paso Master Gardener and Rainwater Harvesting Specialist Doc Stalker will be teaching about active rainwater harvesting and demonstrating how to build a rain barrel. High Desert Native Plants and members of the National Immigrant Farming Initiative (NIFI) will also be partnering with us to provide valuable expertise.

Cost: Free with hands-on participation in activities.
