Lily of the Nile

Common names:  Lily of the Nile, African lily
Botanical names: Agapanthus praecox
General information: Tender evergreen perennial. Works well as a border. Originated in Africa.

Characteristics
Size:  8 inches to 3 feet in height
Flowers: Blue, light purple or white
Bloom time: Spring and summer
Leaves: Long dark green blades

Pests and Disease Problems: None known

Growing in North Texas Plant in neutral pH soil spaced 3-4 feet apart in full to partial sun. Plant appreciates protection from late afternoon summer sun. Make sure soil is well drained. Water well until established. Add mulch near plant to maintain soil temperature and moisture. Can be propagated by seed or division.
