Mr. Singer was a member of the Denton County Master Gardener Association (DCMGA) from 2008 through 2021 and served in a variety of capacities on behalf of the Texas Master Gardener mission and Denton County residents.
Mr. Singer had many interests as a Master Gardener, and he did his best to participate in all of them. His primary focus was working with his wife to develop and implement the Earth-Kind Design Your Own Yard via Gardenscapers. The three-day training was open to the public and DCMGA members. At the end of the class, participants went home with a realistic landscape design they created that included hardscape, garden design, and plant selection. Mr. Singer took what he learned from Earth-Kind concepts and spent a lot of his time educating the public through the Speaker’s Bureau and various public events. He also utilized his skills at other projects such as the Josey Pocket Prairie, Annual Garden Tour and Plant Sale, and Fall Garden Fest. In 2021 he was awarded the John Cooper Educator Award for his education efforts in Earth-Kind concepts and design throughout Denton County.
In 2012 Mr. Singer was elected as vice president of education for the DCMGA Board of Directors. He served two years in this capacity, helping members achieve greater levels of specialization, planning member training, and continuing his public education efforts. He also helped individuals, who had few computer skills, learn how to manage audio-visual and software tools when working with the Speaker’s Bureau. Mr. Singer served Denton County with distinction, a friendly demeanor, and an easy-going teaching style. Both the public and DCMGA members enjoyed his education and use of humor to help individuals learn.
