Overview of the Master Gardener program and Introduction to soils.
Soil is the primary source of water and nutrients for plants. It also provides the physical anchor that enables plants to stand upright. If the soil is managed well, the plants will be healthy and productive, and the quality and quantity of our water supplies will be better protected. Texas has 1,411types of.soils, ranging from
sugar sands to heavy clays. To produce healthy plants, gardeners must have a thorough knowledge of their soils’ characteristics and manage their soil properly.
