Class of 1996
Carolyn Gold is an exemplary Master Gardener whose dedication and contributions to the Texas Master Gardener and Denton County Master Gardener Association communities make her a worthy candidate for Texas Emerita Master Gardener status.
Carolyn embarked on her Master Gardener journey in 1996, completing the training requirements in that year’s class. Since then, her passion for teaching, particularly to children, has driven her involvement. Her dedication to educating the younger generation about gardening is commendable and aligns perfectly with the mission of the Texas Master Gardener program.
In addition to her love for teaching, Carolyn undertook numerous leadership roles within the DCMGA. She served as Treasurer in 1998 and 1999 and chaired four projects in 2001. Her remarkable leadership skills extended to organizing the Children’s Arbor Day in collaboration with Keep Denton Beautiful for many years, showcasing her ability to foster community partnerships and promote environmental education.
Carolyn’s contributions have not gone unnoticed. She received the TMGA Outstanding Individual award in 2001, reflecting her outstanding commitment to the Master Gardener program. Her dedication earned her the status of an Honorary Life Member in 2014. Furthermore, her leadership in the Bayless-Selby House Historical Gardens project in 2002, which won Project of the Year, and her Project Manager/Leadership Award in 2013 testify to her exceptional gardening expertise and commitment to the community.
Throughout her journey, Carolyn participated in various projects, activities, and events that supported the Texas Master Gardener and DCMGA missions. Notably, in 1996, she and her fellow interns created gardens at Cumberland Children’s Home using hay bales. In 1999, Carolyn took on the role of Project Manager for the Denton County Historical Park Gardens, leading the project for over 20 years. Her research and design skills ensured the gardens adhered to a period-perfect aesthetic, preserving local history for generations to come.
In recognition of her decades-long dedication to the Texas Master Gardener program, her leadership roles, exceptional projects, and her continuous commitment to educating and inspiring others, Carolyn Gold is highly deserving of Texas Emerita Master Gardener status. Her legacy in the Master Gardener community is one of unwavering dedication and inspiration.
