Spring Into Action: Spring Plant Sale
Our Extension office enriches our community with programs related to Agriculture and Natural Resources, 4-H and Youth Development, Family and Community Health, Better Living for Texans and Horticulture. We are a team making a positive impact to the benefit of our community. I direct the Horticulture programs as part of this dynamic effort that includes an outstanding group of dedicated volunteers known as the Brazos County Master Gardeners. For 35 years our Extension Master Gardeners are experienced volunteers serving Brazos County. We work hand-in-hand to improve gardening skills and share best practices from our garden to yours through community service and outreach, training and educational programs. We host an Extension Earth-Kind® series starting in May as part of our Learning at the Library programs with the Clara B. Mounce Library. We offer a Gardening with the Masters series at our Demonstration Idea Garden we affectionately call The DIG beginning with Texas native plants in April. We also invite the public to our monthly members meetings offering current topics such as Heirloom Bulbs with Texas Gardener magazine owner Jay White in late March.
Brazos County Master Gardeners 2025 Spring Plant Sale
While we are planning and hosting a variety of spring gardening education programs, I recommend one signature “be at” event that can help with your spring garden itch and support our effort. Brazos County Master Gardeners are hosting our annual Spring Plant Sale on Saturday, March 22 from 8 a.m. to noon. The plant sale will be held at the Brazos County AgriLife Extension office parking lot located at 4153 County Park Court in Bryan. Our Master Gardeners are excited to offer a variety of plants that will fit your specific gardening needs. This year’s spring plant sale will feature plants passed along and lovingly hand-raised from members’ homes, Texas native plants, culinary herbs, hearty summer vegetables and ornamental perennials adapted to Brazos County. Fill out your vegetable garden with herbs and veggies that are tried and true for Brazos County Spring gardens, and don’t forget butterfly and hummingbird attractors for habitat gardening. Experienced Brazos County Master Gardener members and I will be on hand to answer your gardening questions. Brazos County Master Gardeners are a not-for-profit organization, and all proceeds support our education programs and maintenance of our demonstration garden. Find out more about the event, including plant lists, from our Master Gardeners’ website txmg.org/brazos.
Brazos County Master Gardeners Make A Difference
Speaking of The DIG and never resting on our mountain laurels, we are hard at work cultivating thematic gardens that demonstrate a wide range of plants that can be grown with minimum care under Brazos County growing conditions. The DIG is located at 2619 Highway 21 West in Bryan. We invite you to stroll through the individual gardens that focus on Texas A&M AgriLife select SuperStar® and Earth-Kind® plants, vegetables, Texas native plants, roses, pollinator plants, bulbs and many more plant varieties. We just started a new research demonstration project with our Texas Master Gardener training class, cultivating 12 tomato varieties to prove the best for local home gardening efforts. While it is open daily during daylight hours for self-guided exploration, as mentioned we do host monthly garden-related programs and are looking forward to a public tomato tasting event in late May from fruit cultivated from our tomato research plots.
I am proud of our Brazos County Master Gardeners and proud to be part of a dynamic AgriLife Extension team of professionals that continue to make a positive impact in our community. We’ll see you at the annual Spring Plant Sale on March 22, remember we are friends when we meet and of course I’ll see you in the garden.
