10th ANNUAL TOUR OF GARDENSTOGcoverpicture

Saturday, May 18, 2013

9:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m.

The Rockwall County Master Gardener Association is looking forward to celebrating the tenth anniversary of this popular community event.   Ticket holders will be able to view four of our favorite tour sites from past years.   Three of these private gardens are located in Old Town Rockwall and one is a showplace located in Heath.  Visitors on tour day will also view two public gardens.

Special activities at the Discovery Garden will include:

  • A variety of topiaries will be displayed in the community garden.  The creative botanical interpretations will be constructed by the Master Gardeners.
  • A company with whimsical whirligigs will be exhibiting a delightful selection of garden art.   Tour visitors will be able to order their favorite wind catchers from the vendor.
  • Ticket holders will also have an opportunity to support the Discovery Garden’s mission by purchasing a brick engraved with their choice of words.  The bricks will form a walkway in the garden that will highlight these generous donors.  Each brick will cost $40.00 and the engraving is limited to three lines with 16 characters per line.  Orders can be placed and paid for at the Discovery Garden on the day of the tour.

Two fun contests will also be conducted during the tour:

  • Master Gardener volunteers have enjoyed the decorated hats worn by our tour visitors in past years.  A decorated hat or cap contest will be held on tour day!  Ticket holders who wear a fun garden themed hat or cap will be photographed at one of the sites on the tour.  The Master Gardeners will vote on the winner and a special prize will be rewarded.
  • Those tour visitors who go to all six garden sites and get their ticket stamped at each site will be eligible for chances to win the prizes awarded to our survey respondents.  After you go to all six garden locations, you will write your name and a method of contact on the ticket and then leave the ticket at the last garden you visit.  You must respond to the online survey during the two weeks after the tour for name to be eligible for more chances.

For two weeks after the tour, the Master Gardeners will conduct an online survey.  The survey will ask the tour visitors a few questions about their experiences during the day.  Respondents to the survey will be able to win one of these prizes:  First Prize – Kindle Fire HD;  Second Prize – $150.00 gift card to Covington’s Nursery in Rowlett; and,  Third Prize – One hour landscape design consultation.  Check back on rockmga after the tour to participate in the survey.
