2012 ADVANCED TRAINING

January 18, 2012: “Greenhouse Building” with Katherine Bedrich:

  • 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
  • Katherine’s Home-Directions will follow
  • Credit for those who have not received greenhouse training credit previously.

February 15, 2012: “Sustainable Gardening

  • 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.
  • Thorndale Chamber of Commerce
  • We will have a guest speaker to explain the movement and it’s impact locally.

February, 29, 2012:  “Fire Wise Landscaping“:

  • 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm
  • Cameron Housing Authority
  • 704 W. 6th Street, Cameron
  • How to landscape your home for protection against wildfires.

March, 31, 2012:  “Container Gardening”:

  • 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.
  • Producers Cooperative Association, 1800 North Texas Avenue Bryan, TX
  • From planning your container garden all the way through the finished product.

April 18, 2012: “Designing and Making final decisions on Hardscapes and Plantings”:

  • 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
  • James and Connie Anderle’s Home-Directions will follow
  • We will take a tour and learn about their experience.

 June 16, 2012: “New Invaders of Texas Workshop”  by Jessica D. Strickland M.S. Invasive Species Program Coordinator:

  • 9:00 am – 4:00 pm
  • Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center, Austin, TX
  • It will cover invasive pests of regulatory concern and best management practices for control and eradication of selected species. It will also cover a new feature on Texasinvasives.org, the “Eradicator Calculator”, which is designed to help organize and record volunteer-based eradication efforts.

July  18, 2012: ” Landscaping with Herbs & Native Texas Herbs”  by Henry Flowers:

  • 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm

September 19, 2012: “Field Trip to Del Real Nursery”

  • 10:00 am – 12:00 pm
  • Caldwell, Texas
  • Learn about pruning and care of Roses

November 3, 2012:  Field Trip to Ellison’s Greenhouse

  • 10:00 am – 12:00 pm
  •  Brenham, Texas
  • There is a $4.00 charge per person
  • A program on poinsettias and a tour
