Class 2012 will meet from January 18, 2012 to May 2, 2012 on Wednesday afternoons from 1:30 to 5:00 p.m., in the classroom at 325 Resource Dr., New Braunfels. Mentors are not expected to attend every class, but are strongly encouraged to attend the first-day luncheon, graduation (May 9, 2012) and class workdays (in the gardens). Mentors will be provided with a “Mentor Notebook” and will receive service hours for documented mentoring time. Mentors will also receive education hours for attending the classes.
Our mentor orientation meeting will be a luncheon at the Extension Office 325 Resource Dr., New Braunfels on January 11, 2012, beginning at 11:00 a. m. You will receive your notebooks, class list, and be able to discuss responsibilities and have questions answered.
The following is a guideline for mentor duties
- Be a helpful friend
- Call your trainee(s) each week a few days before class to help them solve any homework problems.
- Plan to have lunch with your trainee(s) on special days, including the first day of class, graduation and to attend a least one workday with them at a MG project.
- Sign up to work the phone bank the first time your trainee works.
- Be a sounding board when a trainee has a problem.
- Continue to call your trainee(s) until they become Master Gardeners.
